The story I would like to see reported is a larger story on concussions in baseball. Recently, Francisco Cervelli was injured with a concussion and is now injured indefinitely for the New York Yankees. This is an increasing trend for Major League Baseball, and other higher profile players have been concussed lately. In Canada, this could be localized by talking to Justin Morneau, who is the former American League Most Valuable Player, and a fan favourite in Canada due to his birthplace: New Westminster, BC.
Morneau has struggled with concussions and post-concussion syndrome for parts of the past two seasons. Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar was also injured for a few games this season after a collision.
Concussions aren’t normally an injury that people associate with baseball, but recently the MLB implemented a new 7-day disabled list for players with concussions. The reporter could talk with coaches, general managers and league officials to explore how that new system is working, and also players who have suffered concussions to find out how that affects them, especially when they try to return, and an exploration regarding whether there is any way to reduce the amount of concussions in baseball.
