Add Roger Clemens to the list. The list of high profile athletes who are found innocent in court. This time, like many, it was ruled a mistrial, due to inadmissible evidence being used against Mr. Clemens.
ESPN covered this story on their website, and possibly on television. What I was quite surprised at was the lack of visuals that ESPN had to go with this story. Throughout the 2:42 story, Clemens was shown twice – in the exact same clip. Surely an organization such as ESPN could do better than that. Show Clemens striking someone out, his famous episode of throwing a bat at Mike Piazza, an old court shot, ANYTHING. Anything would be more appealing than a graphic and a voiceover.
I realize that the pictures are supposed to match what the story is about, but since Clemens is such a famous athlete, and obviously there was a big lack of footage on this particular story, I think some baseball shots would have been appropriate, even if they would be slightly not ideal.
Obviously with court cases there could be bans in place to prevent ESPN from gathering and publishing footage, but this is no excuse for having a lack of visuals for their audience on a man who has been in the spotlight for the last 20 years.
