It’s not a groundbreaking story, but it’s likely interesting to sports fans, and it’s really well done in my opinion. Terry Francona, the longtime manager of the Boston Red Sox is not going to return to manage next year — at least not with the Sox.
Speculation as to why the change is being made is running rampant, but different people give different reasons.
I like this story because they actually use a wide array of footage of Francona in different situations: arguing with umpires, making pitching changes, cheering on his team, eating sunflower seeds and other shots.
The story also uses different interviews: analysis from the anchor, an interview with a Boston columnist on baseball, and an interview with Francona himself after Boston’s crazy playoff collapse a couple of days ago.
They also did a segment of the story with game footage being shown with a smaller graphic of the reporter talking as well. This doesn’t always look good when done, but this time it looked very sharp and was effective. The shots were framed well, and for the interview, the background was Fenway Park, where the Red Sox play, so I think that made it seem more credible and interesting. If it’s an insider from Boston, it helps to see that they are IN Boston.
