This show won’t be for the “easily scared”…
Okay… so it probably won’t be very scary, but this week, after some debate, we decided to do our second themed show. Our first was about Oktoberfest, and this one is about Halloween, so the hosts will dress up, we are decorating the studio, and all the stories will be related to Halloween in some way.
For my story this week for 519 Online, I’m doing a story about Trick or Eat, a program put on by Meal Exchange which is related to the Food Bank. The concept is exactly as it sounds: people (sometimes adults, sometimes children) go around in costume collecting non-perishable food items to help families in need who might be struggling to afford food. It’s a great twist on the traditional Halloween tradition of kids getting candy.
We are planning to interview the co-ordinator of the Cambridge event, as well as some of the Cambridge Hawks. The Hawks are the minor hockey players in Cambridge, and they are heading up the collection of goods. We are also going to interview someone from the food bank.
When talking to the co-ordinator, he said that the parents were all okay with us filming or interviewing their kids. This was a relief for sure, as it can be tough to ask all the parents. Usually they are okay with it, especially with a piece like this where we hope to get some hockey action shots, and an interview with a captain, but the fact that the work on that was done for us was a nice surprise. Since there was such a quick response regarding this, I’m curious as to whether the parents have to sign a form at the beginning of the season.
