Well, this week I’m the switcher.
This is problematic in a way, because I don’t know what a switcher even is, let alone how to use it. I couldn’t pick the switcher out of a room full of technical gear.
I don’t even know what a switcher does. Judging by the name, I’m guessing it switches between live feeds and canned pieces, but that’s just an educated guess.
So, I guess I’ll switch. Luckily, I have Mark to help me out on that day. He instills a lot of confidence in me. When I voice my concerns about being new to this role, he says comforting things, like “Yeah, you’ll probably screw up” or “well, we have EIGHT hours to practice…” When I raise hesitation because people will potentially get angry, he is so sensitive, telling me “if you do (make a mistake), everyone is going to get mad at you.” He makes me feel so much better.
This confidence carries over to the hosts, such as Meghan, who says encouraging words to me like, “You’d better not mess (sic) this up…” Her confidence in my abilities makes me feel that much more ready to tackle this new role.
All in all, it should be a good week. Hopefully.
So, I’ll switch.
And depending on how this Thursday goes, I may need to switch programs.
